Baking soda is not just for baking, there are so many cleaning hacks with baking soda, and the best part is its cheaper than a chemical cleaner you buy from your store, When I use chemicals to clean I always wear my rubber gloves and my mask like I’ve just come out from a chemical factory, the reason been is as a kid I used to be asthmatic and would’nt want the chemicals to trigger my lungs.
People have been cleaning with household essentials like vinegar, baking soda and lemons for a long time, and believe it or not, these items are safe and effective. If you clean with these natural cleaners, you may buy less, spend less money and have fewer harsh chemicals to worry about.
There’s so much we can do with baking soda, I know that it’s not cheap when you purchase them from Dubai, you get them in little tins instead, but I’d suggest you order online or get your folks back home to send you in bulk.

- Drain: Pour vinegar onto a scrub brush small enough to get inside the disposal. Sprinkle the brush with baking soda, then scrub to remove odors and built-upย grime.
- Cutting boards: For cutting board surface cleaning with white vinegar, spray with straight vinegar, then rinse to clean.
- Microwave: Surface cleaning with white vinegar isn’t limited to countertops. ย Try hard-to-clean microwave stains by placing 1/2-cup vinegar and 1/2-cup water in a glass bowl. Microwave 2-3 minutes, or until it boils. Wipe off the stains easily!
- Stained plastic containers: Coat in vinegar. Let sit. Wash as usual, says Leslie Reichert, aka The Cleaning Coach.
- Countertops: Cleaning kitchen countertops with white vinegar is simple: Just spray onto your surface, then wipe away with a warm, wet rag. However, avoid cleaning countertops with vinegar if you have a granite or marble surface it tends to dull them.
Cleaning with Lemon
- Clean glass: Mix four tablespoons of lemon juice with 1/2 gallon of water. Spray on glass and clean as usual.
- Polish furniture: Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice with one pint of vegetable or mineral oil. Rub onto furniture.
- Prevent limescale on faucets: Rub the fixtures with lemon juice and let sit overnight. Rinse in the morning.
- Clean countertops and cutting boards: Squeeze the juice of a lemon onto the counter or cutting board. Rub the lemon into the stains and let sit until the stains disappear, then rinse.
