Baking Soda, Vinegar and Lemon 🍋

Baking soda is not just for baking, there are so many cleaning hacks with baking soda, and the best part is its cheaper than a chemical cleaner you buy from your store, When I use chemicals to clean I always wear my rubber gloves and my mask like I’ve just come out from a chemical factory, the reason been is as a kid I used to be asthmatic and would’nt want the chemicals to trigger my lungs.

People have been cleaning with household essentials like vinegar, baking soda and lemons for a long time, and believe it or not, these items are safe and effective. If you clean with these natural cleaners, you may buy less, spend less money and have fewer harsh chemicals to worry about.

There’s so much we can do with baking soda, I know that it’s not cheap when you purchase them from Dubai, you get them in little tins instead, but I’d suggest you order online or get your folks back home to send you in bulk.

Cleaning with Baking Soda

  1. Home Pedicure – 2 tsp into warm water heals your feet from calluses and keeps them soft and fresh.
  2. Deodorizer -To deodorize your fridge place a cup of baking soda, removes all foul smells
  3. Sofa or mattress cleaner – Dust and sprinkle baking soda on your sofa or mattress and leave for 5-10 mins, then vacuum the surface. This leaves it feeling clean and refreshing, removes stains and dust mites.
  4. Dental care – make a paste from baking soda and water and brush your teeth, this makes it whiter and cleaner (chemical free)
  5. Beauty Scrub – 3 parts of baking soda and one part of water, use this to scrub your face, feet, and hands (leaves your skin soft and smooth)
  6. Laundry Detergent – Add a quarter cup baking soda to your detergent powder to work better on your clothes and stain free
  7. Room Freshener – add baking soda with your favorite essentials oils for a chemical free air freshener
  8. Fresh Flowers – Add one teaspoon of baking soda to fresh flowers to help them last longer
  9. Shoe freshener – sprinkle baking soda into your work or gym shoes to help deodorize, dust it off before wearing them.
  10. Silver polisher – Mix 3 part baking soda with 1 part water and make a paste and apply directly to silver with a clean sponge or cloth, rinse well and dry.

Cleaning with Vinegar

  1. Refrigerator: Definitely skip the toxic chemicals where you store your food. Instead, try surface cleaning with white vinegar. Wipe up stains and spills with a 50-50 vinegar-water mix. You can even keep a bottle of the mixture stored in your fridge!
  2. Drain: Pour vinegar onto a scrub brush small enough to get inside the disposal. Sprinkle the brush with baking soda, then scrub to remove odors and built-up grime.
  3. Cutting boards: For cutting board surface cleaning with white vinegar, spray with straight vinegar, then rinse to clean.
  4. Microwave: Surface cleaning with white vinegar isn’t limited to countertops.  Try hard-to-clean microwave stains by placing 1/2-cup vinegar and 1/2-cup water in a glass bowl. Microwave 2-3 minutes, or until it boils. Wipe off the stains easily!
  5. Stained plastic containers: Coat in vinegar. Let sit. Wash as usual, says Leslie Reichert, aka The Cleaning Coach.
  6. Countertops: Cleaning kitchen countertops with white vinegar is simple: Just spray onto your surface, then wipe away with a warm, wet rag. However, avoid cleaning countertops with vinegar if you have a granite or marble surface it tends to dull them.

Cleaning with Lemon

  1. Clean glass: Mix four tablespoons of lemon juice with 1/2 gallon of water. Spray on glass and clean as usual.
  2. Polish furniture: Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice with one pint of vegetable or mineral oil. Rub onto furniture.
  3. Prevent limescale on faucets: Rub the fixtures with lemon juice and let sit overnight. Rinse in the morning.
  4. Clean countertops and cutting boards: Squeeze the juice of a lemon onto the counter or cutting board. Rub the lemon into the stains and let sit until the stains disappear, then rinse.
  5. Keep your refrigerator smelling nice: If you want your fridge to have a fresh scent, simply put half a lemon inside.

Hope you find these tips useful and try your best to go chemical-free and stay safe.
