I was given the opportunity to go for a skin analysis consultation by Herbal Essentials, at first, I was not sure what a skin analysis was about? When I booked myself an appointment , I was really looking forward to the session, wondering what the whole deal was about, when I reached Mercato mall and asked the reception where the Herbal Essentials kiosk was, I was directed to the first right after the entrance, I headed my way there and noticed a line of kiosks, the bright white kiosk with a lovely lady smiling towards me and I looked up and noticed the Herbal Essentials sign! Finally, I was there!
The lovely esthetician introduced herself as Starmilly, an amazing and welcoming girl with a big smile! She talked me through the whole skin analysis procedure, explaining to me how she will help me understand my skin better and how I can help and repair damages done to my skin.
She picked up a techno savvy gadget which scans my skin and connects it to a smart tablet , despite having makeup on this device can scan deeper and analyze how damaged my skin was, there were 4 steps she covered and explained to me in detail.
By monitoring my hydration percentage in the epidermis, she was able to figure out a my “Skins health” state, these indicators show the condition of the first few layers of my skin barrier defense, and gauge the levels of fluid intake and dispersion of fluid intake, I could see through the tablet the cells of my skin, which looked creepy! but was an eye opener to how affected my skin was, after analyzing this I noticed by skin was dry and needed to be hydrated. She advised me to drink more water than my usual intake and to make sure I go gently on my scrubs and how important it was to moisturize my face.
Testing the Sebum will help determine the amount of sebum excreted to the skin surface, the quality of the sebum level and fluid balance is a very important factor to check and useful as a diagnostic tool, this level helps you to see the level of your skin’s natural oil glands and to help prevent a greasy skin that causes breakouts, Too much sebum produces surface oiliness, blocks pores, provides nourishment to bacteria that live upon the skin and contributes to acne flare-ups.
It is very important to check your melanin content on your skin, today with so many risk factors out there such as pollution, exposure to chemicals even from your makeup can cause a lot of melanin production on your skin, the disadvantage of having more melanin on our skin is that it makes our skin more “reactive” causes pimples, rash , scratch of an inflammation to our skin , which can trigger the production of excess melanin, resulting in dark patches or marks on our skin. While analyzing this, I realized my skin needed more care and was advised to use more a higher SPF to help shield my skin from excess melanin production.
Skin elasticity is the skin’s ability to change shape and return to normal, this, if turns out to be low, can end up causing wrinkles and should be taken care of as early as possible, you can take precautions and help prevent wrinkles, this can be caused due to poor habits or even weight loss, since mine was almost low I was told to make sure I drink plenty of water (I really need to start drinking more water!!) avoid the sun or use a good sunscreen, avoid hot baths and partake in exercises, this can help improve skin elasticity and eat more proteins.
When we were done with each of the section, the program generated a summary report which was awesome, it showed me areas of concerns and need to start working on. She also suggested great herbal essential products that can help with my treatment and since my main issue was needing to use more sunscreen I was given an amazing sunscreen oil with SPF 30! It’s so easy to blend and very light on your skin. Usually, when I use a sunscreen I’m always left with a white residue and a heavy feeling, but this oil blended so well!
