There’s always a beauty in writing with a pen on a paper, these days the simplicity of writing and thoughtfulness is lacking in typing on your PC or laptop. Writing brings feelings and meaning of your words to a paper, whereas typing lacks that personal touch.
Journaling is an ancient tradition which dates back to the 10th century in Japan, where women and “enlightened” individuals during the renaissance used journaling as means of recording events, personal reflections, questions about the environment, poetries and reactions to the experience of the human race.
During the late 18th century, writers, artists, and other creative individuals used to use their diaries as an integral part of recording their creative process.
The 19th and 20th century have also seen a rise in journal writing , including the most famous diary of all, “Anne Frank.”
Now that you have a brief history of journal writing, you should also know the benefits that come along with journal writing:
- Helps track your development and growth process
You can compare notes and see how you have changed through the process and how much have you developed yourself and also record your concrete experience during your journey (Weight loss tracking, goal tracking etc)
- Increases Clarity
By writing and recording your thoughts in a journal, you promote self-discovery, facilitate reflection and record observations about your experiences
- Self Discipline
By bullet journaling, and creating and tracking schedules on your journal you can discipline yourself to form an organized habit, by daily journaling you can keep track of things you find hard to remember and to help you lead a more organized life.
- Helps with healing
Journaling your thoughts or cherishing memories of a lost loved one will help you emotionally and psychologically by being able to record those beautiful memories you could come back to by reading what you have written of your loved one.
- Boosts Creativity
If you’re a creative individual you could use journaling to boost your creativity by illustrating, pasting articles or painting your thoughts or recording favorite things related to your hobby. This helps boost your confidence and helps you realize your value.
